Learning to forgive
Today at the Day Camp Programme was about forgiveness. After learning to write the English alphabet, and enjoying a quick lunch, we invited a leader of the Sudanese refugee children, Pastor Yosef*, to share the story of the Prodigal Son.
We showed pictures while he told the story in his loud, booming voice. The children were captivated by his storytelling, and when questioned afterwards, even five-year old Miriam* understood the theme of the story.
Team volunteer Mrs. Wafa explained that when we do something wrong, we need to ask God and others to forgive us. And if someone does something wrong against us, we also need to forgive them. (We pray that this concept will hit home for these children, who have experienced terrible injustices in their home countries, and face prejudice in the one they have escaped to.)
We finished by memorising this verse in both English and Arabic. Why don’t you give it a try?
Luke 6:37: Forgive and you will be forgiven
ولا تدينوا فلا تدانوا لوقا ٦:٣٧
