Meet Haneya - she works in a handicraft workshop in the garbage dump in North Africa. Here, women receive training for three months before being given a work space to make products. For Haneya, a widow, it means a better life for her and her children.
Working 10 hours a day, five days a week, skillfully making as many rugs as she can, life is tough, but hopeful, for this mother-of-two.
She previously worked in the textile industry before she married but, after losing her husband in the 2011 revolution, she was forced to find work.
This is where the the empowerment centre came in. It helps women like Haneya support themselves and their families. Empowering women to become financially stable, supporting them in education and developing their skills, it's a life-line for many who can't read or write.
After completing her training, Heneya can bring home a wage, enjoy free time for herself, and make memories with her friends and family.
For a widow in Egypt, this is a need, not a want.
This support is constant for her and she only asks that you remember her in your prayers - that the Lord continually provides for her family and the economy in her community improves.
What a blessing it was to meet her, to see the human spirit so vibrant amongst such a heavy world. This is what the empowerment centre is doing for these women. It's creating a movement where women are contributing members of society with passion and skills.
Haneya is a strong woman, raising two beautiful kids. She is independent, yet fully committed to Christ. What a testimony this is for the women in need here in Africa.
