Meet Susan, a Doctor in Education who will be training the refugee teachers in North Africa. This is what she says:
"I'm here for another 10 days or so and hope to have a couple of hours with the teachers each afternoon.
All of the teachers were teachers in Sudan, but they have had very few opportunities for professional development. My aim is to try and provide them with some tools and skills that will help them better understand their own teaching practices and the students they teach.
I am going to the school Monday morning and will spend a few hours observing various classes, trying to understand more of their context, teaching style and so on before I begin the sessions after school.
At this point I have many ideas of what we might do, but until I begin to work with the teachers and see them in action, it is difficult to make concrete plans. I have taught in many different contexts in both the UK and Spain and have done teacher training before, but I have never gone into a situation with no previous experience of the context."
We will write another post in a few days when we have picked up some sort of momentum, but for now, we ask you to pray that Susan would have wisdom to know how to best help them, that she would understand their needs as quickly as possible, and above all, that we would have a fun and productive time together.
