It's time to 'treat refugees like animals'

By Farah Khairat

What if we viewed the process of humans migrating in the same way as birds?

This is the question that is raised by the video titled, #Likeanimals by the Tunisian association of immigrants and refugees in collaboration with the agency of communications Memac Ogilvy Label. The reason why birds migrate is as simple as the reason why humans do: in order to survive.

As humans, our nature is innately selfish, which makes one wonder why referring to ourselves as animals is more derogatory than being referred to as humans.

The reason for this being that as a human race, we place ourselves on a higher pedestal, claiming to be the superior species. But the way this video uses a play on words to display how truly horrifying mankind can be is ingenious.

Perhaps, if we all humbled ourselves and started treating each other like equal animals, then the humanitarian disaster wouldn’t be in the critical state that it is in now.
