Dreams that Become Reality

Story by: Jessica M.

Could you imagine as a kid dreaming of becoming a doctor, lawyer, engineer or teacher but instead being forced to flee your home leaving behind your father and everything you’ve ever known?

The Genocide in Sudan forced a family of six to do just that and now live in this empty apartment that they call their home…but it’s not really much of a home.

This is Eman, the single mother of five kids who still carry those big dreams. She can only find work two days a week cleaning homes. Eman’s wages are barely enough to pay for their rent, so paying for the children to attend school is out of the question.

The apartment they share has no furniture—no chairs, no tables, no sofa…not even a proper mattress to rest their heads.  In the kids bedroom you’ll find one mat covered in crumbs, bugs and dirty blankets. All five siblings sleep here. The apartment has one bathroom with no shower. They use baskets for washing.

While we visited, Eman was boiling lentils over a very small propane heater in the kitchen. There was no stove, no microwave, and no refrigerator, no proper sink and no cabinets.

Past the kitchen was Eman’s room. There, she sleeps on a blanket on top of 5 2x4 boards that lay on the ground. In the corner we noticed one suitcase that held what was left of the family’s belongings from their life in Sudan.

At the end of our visit,  Farys, the aspiring pastor, prayed over our team with such conviction and courage, that we couldn’t help but be inspired by his passion for Jesus.

This family’s situation may seem despairing, but there is hope for them.

Our team has the opportunity to drastically change the trajectory of this family’s life. You can help us by purchasing items to meet their needs.

Over the next three days, we are believing that God, through you, will provide this family with food, beds, furniture, school costs, and other necessities to make this house a home.

Visit our shop to give hope and show the tangible love of Jesus for Eman’s family, and our team will deliver these gifts on your behalf, so we can tell a story, bigger than ourselves.
